DAd

I never really understood why people cried at funerals or why we even attend burial ceremonies. As I grew and gained more knowledge about life, I came to the realization that at one point we all leave our earthly bodies(Hebrews 9:27). There were days I wondered how people felt when they lose a loved one, never for once did it occur to me that I would be among such people. Now I look back and all I have is good memories of my dad, memories that I will forever cherish.

My dad was the best dad ever!

He never joked about his family. His greatest desire was to see all his children educated. He taught his children to be family-oriented and to be at peace with all. My dad had this desire for the things of God and he was always hungry for the word. He hated it when we would run late for church. I watched him evolve from an ordinary Christian to a spirit-filled believer. He enrolled in BBTC and I watched him complete with commitment and dedication. He also did an online bachelor’s degree in theology and he was super excited when the church asked him to be one of the Sunday school teachers. Every evening he will prepare his note and wake up early for church. He was one of the best teachers in the maths field

He taught with so much passion and took his job so seriously. Even when he was not feeling too bright he would still go to work. So one day I was in the library and this lady walked up to me and said: “I heard Mr Goba is your dad. Wow! that man taught me in Armitage. Ehhh! Mr Goba! He is such a kind-hearted man. My regards to him when he calls”. That incident made me remember what my dad would always say “a good name is better than riches. We have to help each other if we don’t enjoy the benefits our children will”

When I talk about my dad I don’t use the past tense because to me he still lives on. Every life he has impacted, every student he has taught, every good thing that will be said about him is proof that he still lives on. We each have a little piece of him in us. He may not be present with us in flesh but he sure is with us.

My dad taught me a lot!

He taught me to show no fear, to be smart, and make use of every opportunity. “There is no shame in asking for help princess. when you are not sure about something, ask! Don’t be shy or afraid to voice your opinion” These were some of his last words to me before I left for uni.

Little did I know that was the last time I will see him face to face.

Daddy taught me to have fun and be social and face each day with cheer. He was always so able, so fast and so strong.

In my eyes, he did no wrong and even when he did he would always apologize. Daddy was a good listener and the arms around me when I cried.

My dad was not the type to boast. He was always there for those he loved. When I run into trouble, I would call him first even before calling my mum.

He worked so hard and those strong working hands helped me through life and made me understand that life can be hard and tough and sad but through it all, I have God and him.

Because of my dad, I understood that life was actually pretty good. I believe in you daddy and I will follow your path and when things go wrong I will look back and laugh.

I hope you can hear me so I can let you know that you were, you are and will always be my superhero.

with love

Your little girl
