IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO ASK GOD FOR YOUR NEEDS?

Is it really necessay to ask God for your needs.

Do you sometimes feel like it’s weird to ask an all-knowing God for your needs? I mean is there anything He doesn’t already know? Yet He has told us to ask so that we can receive, to seek so that we can find to keep knocking and the door will open(Matthew 7:7)

Sometimes I wonder to myself If God already knows all of me, my desires and my nature is not hidden from Him(Psalms 139:15) Why then do I need to ask Him for my needs?

……Give us this day our daily bread…(Matthew 6:11)

REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD ASK GOD FOR YOUR NEEDS.

Ask God for your needs

The Lord’s prayer falls naturally into two divisions: the first focusing upon God, and the second focusing on ourselves. The second part of the prayer has to do with our physical, psychological, and spiritual needs.

1.ASK GOD FOR YOUR NEEDS BECAUSE HE CARES

God need not be told of our needs, He already knows. However, He instructs us to daily bring our petitions to Him in the place of prayer simply because He cares and wants us to be aware of this fact. He is a good Dad! God is also Love and love gives.

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:11

I find it greatly encouraging that the God of creation, who is infinitely holy, and who holds the universe in His hands, cares that my physical needs are met

2.ASK GOD FOR YOUR NEEDS BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST PROVIDER

There’s this certain level of assurance when you know the person you are to ask for help has the capacity to meet your demands. In God’s economy, there is no depletion, He gives out of abundance and abundance still remains. So when we ask Him for our needs, those things which are of uttermost importance and are in line with his, will He provides because He is Jehovah Jireh.

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:19

3.ASKING GOD FOR YOUR NEEDS RAISES YOUR AWARENESS OF TOTAL DEPENDANCY ON HIM.

In the words of Selwyn Hughes, the central value of prayer is that prayer is not something by which we inform God of our needs, and thus influence Him to give us things. Prayer is designed to influence us, it’s we who are in need of this kind of prayer, not God. He is very much aware of our needs but He also knows that until we come face to face daily with the fact that we are creatures of need, then we can soon develop a spirit of independence, and withdraw ourselves from close contact with Him.

The most dangerous thing that can happen to man is when he reaches the point where he feels he no longer needs God’s help.He sees no need to ask the giver of life for anything.

4. ASKING GOD FOR YOUR NEEDS HELPS YOU BUILD A DEFENSE AGAINST INGRATITUDE

What do you think will happen if we stopped asking God for our daily bread? Will He stop providing? No He won’t but we will begin to take the blessings of life for granted, and gradually without realising it we will give in to the notion that we can provide for the necessities of life and that we are perfectly capable of managing our own affairs Pride will gradually creep in.

5. WE ASK BECAUSE WE’VE BEEN COMMANDED TO

If you can’t find any reasons whatsoever to ask, just ask because He said we should. It is that simple 😄. In the words of Selwyn Hughes, it’s not “unspiritual” to pray about the needs of the body. However, God guarantees our physical needs if we seek first the kingdom of God. So as we seek Him let’s not shy from asking Him for our basic human needs.

WHY DO WE ASK AND STILL NOT RECEIVE?🤔

Micheala, you said I should ask and I did but still nothing(I hear you lol). First, let me make some clarifications(clears throats).. God wants us to ask Him for our needs and not just our wants. Don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with asking God for our wants. After all, He said whatsoever is good, honoring, pure, and is of a good report we are to think and desire those things( Philippians 4:8) but our very basic necessities first.

Terms:

  • Want — have a desire to possess or do (something); wish for.
  • Need — require (something) because it is essential or very important rather than just desirable.

6 REASONS WHY IT SEEMS LIKE YOUR REQUESTS ARE NOT BEING GRANTED:

1.Asking with the wrong motives

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. (James 4:3). This verse says it all.

1b. Ask for the wrong things or asking for the right things at the wrong time.

Sometimes our motives are right but what we are asking for might not be the best. In the words of Father Joe “God’s love for us is, in the words of Scripture, “as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like a blazing fire, like a might flame.” (Song of Songs 8:6) This love is so deep and rich that it is pointed toward one thing and one thing only: Our eternal union with him in heaven. Because of this, he will never allow anything that will lessen the possibility of our union with him. He even will, in his pure all-consuming love, allow us to experience temporary pain in anticipation of eternal joy.

2. Not asking with confidence

This could be due to our ignorance or we don’t really have the understanding of God’s nature. Like I mentioned earlier, God is love and He loves to give. So when we come to ask, we must do so with confidence knowing that we will be heard.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

14And this is the confidence that we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. (1john 5:14)

3. Doubting and not receiving in faith:

When we place our request to God we must believe that He hears us and, we must receive the answers in faith and thanksgiving.

. 15And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we already possess what we have asked of Him. (1John 5:15)

4.Negative Confession:

You are praying for strength but at the same time, you keep calling yourself weak. What exactly is the point of the prayer? The words we speak are power!

5.Sin:

God hates sin! We cannot constantly live in deliberate sin, intentionally disobeying God’s commands, doing things that displease Him, and just expects Him to grant us our requests. It doesn’t work that way! God is Holy and it’s expectant of us to live lives pleasing to Him.

6. Not persisting in the place of prayer:

Remember Daniel and his 21 days fast? He had asked God for something and the answer was given but the enemy withheld the blessing making it look like God didn’t answer. We have an enemy, the devil, who wants to rob us of the good things God wants to give us thus Prayer is God’s way to stand firm against the devil’s tricks (Eph. 6:18).

Conclusion:

We have a Father who cares and wants the best for us. He also desires that we ask Him daily for our needs . It’s humbling to know that we are totally dependant on Him. Bring your requests and petitions to God. Don’t be shy!😁

Prayer

Dear Father, Thank you because we know that you will provide all of our needs according to your riches in glory. We ask for grace to ask when we are in need and faith to receive. In Jesus’ name…Amen.
