No man is an island, they say. And it’s true! We humans need each other to thrive and survive. But let’s not forget the importance of choosing the right kind of people to surround ourselves with. After all, our friends can either make us or break us. As a young believer, having godly friends is a must. Why? Well, the Bible warns us that “evil communication corrupts good morals.” So it’s essential to have friends who share your values and beliefs.
Now you might be wondering, who is a godly friend and what are the traits of a godly friend? Fear not! I’ve got it!
First, let’s define Godly friendship;
Who Is A Godly Friend?
In a world where friendship is cherished, godly friendships hold a special place. A godly friend is someone who not only shares common interests and values but also has a deep-rooted faith in God. They are the ones who walk alongside you on your spiritual journey, offering support, encouragement, and guidance.
A godly friend is someone you can turn to in times of joy or sorrow, knowing that they will pray for you and provide wise counsel. They are there to remind you of God’s love and truth when you may be feeling lost or discouraged.
One of the beautiful aspects of a godly friendship is the mutual desire to grow closer to God together. These friends inspire each other to live out their faith authentically and strive for spiritual growth.
In a world where superficial connections are prevalent, finding a true Christian friend can be like finding a rare gem.
Why Having A Godly Friend Is Invaluable In Today’s World
We live in a world that can sometimes feel chaotic and overwhelming, having a godly friend by your side is truly invaluable.
Having a godly friend means having someone who understands the importance of prayer, scripture, and living a life that honors God. They are there to uplift you when you’re feeling down, to remind you of God’s promises when you’re facing challenges, and to celebrate with you during times of joy.
A godly friend is not just someone to have fun with or share common interests; they are someone who will walk alongside you on your spiritual path. They will pray for you, challenge you to grow in your faith, and hold you accountable when needed.
In today’s world where values can often be compromised or overlooked, having a godly friend provides an anchor of truth and righteousness. They can help steer us away from negative influences and guide us towards making choices that align with our beliefs.

5 Unique Qualities Of A Godly Friend
Here are five key traits to look for in godly friends:
1. Faithfulness: A godly friend will be loyal and committed to their faith, serving as a reliable source of encouragement and guidance. They have developed a steady relationship with Jesus. This enables them to also value other human relationship. Be rest assured that they will stick by your side through thick and thin.
2. Encouragement: An amazing trait of a godly friend is their ability to lift you up when you’re feeling down. Like a motivational speaker armed with powerful bible verses and quotes with endless positivity, they speak life over you.
They also encourage you to grow holistically (spiritual, academic, financial, etc.) and push you to become a better version of yourself.
3. Integrity: In a world of facades, a godly friend will look you in the eye and tell you the bitter truth. They will exhibit honesty, transparency, and moral uprightness in their actions and words, setting an example for others to follow.
4. Wisdom: Godly friends possess wisdom rooted in biblical principles, offering sound advice and discernment in challenging situations. They are the ones to listen to you attentively and give you Wise counsel. A godly friend gives advice based on biblical principles rather than their own personal agenda (because let’s face it, sometimes our own judgment can be as reliable as the weather forecasts).
(Proverbs 12:26)
5a. Accountability: They understand the value of accountability within friendships, being willing to lovingly correct one another when needed while holding each other accountable to live according to God’s Word. A godly friend keeps you in check when you’re about to make questionable life choices.
5b. Prayer warrior status: They don’t just say they’ll pray for you; they actually do it! And trust me, we could all use some extra prayers in this crazy world. Godly friends will pray for you sincerely and consistently, interceding on your behalf and uplifting you during both triumphs and trials.
Important:
Remember that having godly friends does not mean isolating oneself from others who may not share the same beliefs. Instead, it means prioritizing relationships that align with your values while also seeking opportunities to be a positive influence on those around you. By surrounding yourself with godly friends, you can cultivate an environment that fosters growth in your faith journey.
How to cultivate Godly friendship that will last a life time.
No two humans are the same. Some of us are more outgoing while others are introverted. Regardless of your personality here are a few tips on how to make godly friends as a Christian youth.
- Be intentional about making friends. Simply put, you must desire godly friendship, possess some of the traits of a godly friend then choose(with the help of the Holy Spirit) other believers who have similar passion and interest as you.
- The next step is for you to interact with other believers in your community. Be a part of a youth group or any other similar group. Also be an active member by participating in activities and giving your opinions. When you are invited to events honor those invitations. If you can’t make it kindly decline. Offer a listening ear and pray for the people you have identified as your friends. Congratulate them when they celebrate and sympathize with them when something bad happens.
Conclusion:
So my dear reader, take a moment to reflect on your friendships. Are your friends ticking these godly boxes? If so, hold onto them tighter than a squirrel clinging onto its precious acorn stash. And if not, well… it might be time to reevaluate your squad goals.
Remember – surround yourself with those who inspire you to grow closer to God.
So if you have been blessed with a godly friend, cherish them! Nurture this special relationship as it is an invaluable gift from above. Together, you can navigate life’s challenges while strengthening each other’s faith along the way.
