I love weddings! Apart from the cute outfits and the food(my personal favourite), I just love how the bride and groom are lavished with love, gifts, and support from friends and family. It’s such a beautiful sight to behold. The same applies to us too, God has lavished us with so many physical and spiritual blessings. It’s rather unfortunate that some of us are not aware of these blessings and even if we are aware, we tend to take them for granted.
Definitions
- Lavish=to bestow something in generous or extravagant quantities
- Spiritual Blessings= Any blessing administered in the realm of the spiritual life; specifically the blessing of the Spirit in introducing the believer into “the heavenly places in Christ” ( Ephesians 1:3 ); a term expressing the fullness of blessing in God’s gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ.
I find it very thrilling that the God of the universe, the maker of all things has lavished us with Every Spiritual Blessing (not just some but every). How amazing is that!
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Ephesians 1:3
So what are these 7 spiritual blessings you didn’t know you had in Christ? Well,if you stick around you would soon find out😀
7 Amazing Spiritual Blessings You Have In Christ.
1. JUSTIFICATION AND SANCTIFICATION
Although justification and sanctification are part and parcel of the salvation package, it’s the first blessing(gift) we have as believers. We were dead in sin but God in His mercy made us alive in Christ. (Ephesians 2).
The day you repented, believed in your heart, and confessed with your mouth Christ as Lord, all of the charges were dropped. Not only were you redeemed (purchased and set free from the bondage of sin), you were also justified (made right with God) and sanctified (made holy/purified from sin, set apart for God’s use). This justification and sanctification coupled with grace enable us to live a holy and blameless life.
SCRIPTURES
- According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:(Ephesians 1:4 KJV)
- For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV)
- Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:(Romans 3:24 KJV)

2. ADOPTION INTO GOD’S FAMILY
Sin brought separation between man and God. Man lost his place in God’s family but the sacrifice of Christ on the cross restored man back to his rightful place. In Christ Jesus, we have been adopted into God’s family and we can now call him ‘ABBA.
SCRIPTURES( All scriptures used in this post is KJV)
- Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, (Ephesians 1:5)
- But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:( John 1:12)
- For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.(Romans 8:15)
3. AN INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS
An inheritance is a birthright. It’s also the passing on of private properties, titles, debts, rights and, obligations upon the death of an individual to their heirs.
Man, originally created to be found in God i.e to dwell in Eden, lost the birthright when he fell. This brought about separation and man lost his place (inheritance) in God.
However, for man to regain his birthright there was a condition attached. This required the shedding of Blood. Jesus came and took upon himself the sin of man and died on the cross i.e he paid the debt.
Man was set free and thus regained his birthright. Man got his inheritance back i.e his title as a child of God, his right to access God’s presence, and his obligation to live and walk in his identity as heir.
That’s not all….this inheritance is a two-way thing. Yep! We inherited God and God inherited us. ok, now Mickey what do you mean?
In the old testament (I will insert the scriptures below), God referred to the Israelites as His inheritance i.e His own. But we know that He also had a covenant with Abraham which required the circumcision of every male child. We (the Gentiles i.e the Non-Jews) did not share in this covenant so we had no place, we were literally on our own.
The death on the cross enabled us to have our own share in this covenant. We became adopted into God’s kingdom and He inherited us.
He now dwells in us in the person of the Holy Spirit and He expresses himself through us. In Christ Jesus, we who were once strangers are now full legal citizens and we have a share in the inheritance of the saints. That’s something to be proud of …you are a citizen of heaven!!
SCRIPTURES
- Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:(Colossians 1:12)
- Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.(Deuteronomy 9:29)
- For the Lord’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.(Deuteronomy 32:9)
- This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.(Genesis 17:10)
- Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, (1Peter 1:3-4)

4. DIRECT ACCESS TO GOD
The Lord our God is Holy and sin cannot stand His presence. When Man left Eden he lost direct access and needed a mediator. That’s why in the Old Testament, it was only the high priest that could access the Holy of Holies.
This meant the ordinary man/woman couldn’t access God directly. well, that’s a thing of the past because Jesus our high priest, intercessor, and the mediator have paved the way for us. We now have direct access to God. We can now walk boldly into the throne of grace to obtain mercy in our time of need. This is a huge blessing!
SCRIPTURES
- For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (1Timothy 2:5)
- Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrew 4:16)

5. SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
In those days, when the king made a decree it’s sealed meaning it cannot be revoked. The seal is like what we call a stamp e.g a lottery stamp that authenticates or authorizes a document.
As a genuine believer, you have been sealed with the Promised Holy Spirit who dwells in you. He is our guarantee unto the day of redemption. I love how Shante Grossett of Her Style Of Tea explained it in her Ephesians study book:
“I am going to try to explain this with an analogy. Before you buy a house, you make a down payment. This is a guarantee and it practically means the house is yours and no one can take it from you unless otherwise, you decide not to purchase the house again. You and I are the houses and God is the buyer. The Holy Spirit is the down payment. One day He will receive us and we will dwell with Him forever. But until then, the Holy Spirit within us is the sign that we belong to God. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit and our Heavenly Father doesn’t take His seal away. Isn’t that good news!”
SCRIPTURE
- In whom ye also trusted, after that, ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
6. PEACE OF MIND
"But we understand that in the last days there will come times of difficulty......" (1 Timothy 3:1-5)
Have you been on social media lately or watched the news? If yes then you know that times have changed. So much bad news and disaster everywhere. This is the end and it will get worst(it’s scary). However, because of our place in Christ, we have peace of mind. God himself is Peace and since we are in Him we also have peace.
14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (John 14:1)
"The most comprehensive description of shalom is a cosmic order ordained by God through creation (Gn 1) and established with God's people in the covenant (Ex 20–23). In this cosmic order, each part finds its meaning and function as it conforms to God's purpose. Shalom describes the "realm where chaos is not allowed to enter" (Hanson, 347), chaos being understood as sickness, war, social strife, or the violation of the covenant." 7. ETERNAL LIFE
There’s this song by Jay-Z titled “Forever young”. Let’s be honest with ourselves, no one wants to die we all want to live forever. Actually, man was initially created to live forever but because of sin that is not possible.
That’s why Jesus came to give us eternal life(John 3:16). As a believer, you are blessed with eternal life. Even if you die the physical death you have a home and you will be given an incorruptible body (i.e you become immortal :)).
So whether we live or die we are going to reign with Jesus Forever! This is our hope and calling in Christ. We have the confident expectation that we have been called and invited to share in God’s kingdom. I am so filled with joy knowing this fact! I hope you feel the same way too.
SCRIPTURES
- In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (John 14:2)
- And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (John 17:3)
- And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. (1 John 2:25)
- In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; (Titus 1:2)
CONCLUSION
It’s indeed a wonderful feeling to know that we have been gifted with all these and more blessings. What did we do to earn these–absolutely nothing! It’s all by Grace(Ephesians 2:8). Therefore, it’s of paramount importance we know and walk in our identities in Christ. If you are still struggling to know who you are in Christ I recommend you to read the book of Ephesians.
If you are reading this and you are yet to accept Christ as your Lord and personal Savior I am inviting you to do so. All the above-mentioned blessings are exclusively for those who are in Christ but it’s also available for you if only you would let Jesus into your heart.
God loves you so much and He wants you more than any man could want a woman(vice versa). Get closer, open up to Him, and let Him shower you with His love. To do so you must genuinely repent from all wrong, believe in your heart and confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, get baptized, and join a Bible-believing church to be Discipled.
