There was a certain man called Baleem who was offered a job to curse the children of Israel. Balak who was the king of Moab promised to pay him well if he would just curse those Israelites.
15Then Balak sent other princes, more numerous and more distinguished than the first messengers. 16They came to Balaam and said, “This is what Balak son of Zippor says: ‘Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me, 17for I will honor you richly and do whatever you say. So please come and put a curse on this people for me!’ ” Numbers 22:15-16.
It was recorded that God specifically instructed Balaam not to curse the Israelites. As a result, he ended up blessing them. However, something fascinating happened in the chapters that proceed. Moab seduced the Israelites and they compromised their faith and turned away from God. Guess who gave them that tip–Balaam! And the end of Balaam was death(Numbers 31:8)but even after his death a new doctrine arose-the doctrine of Balaam.
In his letter to the churches, Jesus warned against the doctrine of Balaam. This doctrine promoted sexual immorality and idolatry. Isn’t it funny that these two were practiced by believers who knew that God was totally against such? Like the Israelites, they too had compromised and allowed this doctrine to creep in amongst them.
14But I have a few things against you, because some of you hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to place a stumbling block before the Israelites so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality. 15In the same way, some of you also hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16Therefore repent! Otherwise, I will come to you shortly and wage war against them with the sword of My mouth. Revelation 2:14-16

Balaam like many other Christian Youths today live a life of compromise. Firstly, they want to fellowship with God and dine with the devil. This is very dangerous because you can’t serve two masters. Secondly, they want the blessings of God but find it difficult to obey Him. So,they choose to focus on grace, forgetting that the wrath of God is real and twisting scriptures here and there to fit their narratives.Sometimes I wonder if they are aware of the dangers of living a life of compromise.
WHAT IS LIVING A LIFE COMPROMISE?
Living a life of compromise is to be in situations in which you accept something slightly different from what you really want, because of circumstances or because you are considering the wishes of other people(Collins dictionary).
Living a life of compromise is to tolerate and entertain evil.
To live a life of compromise is to ignore the warnings/convictions of the Holy Spirit and give in to the lies of the devil.

To live a life of compromise is to disobey the principles of God because it is “hard”, “boring”, “not cool” and giving in to the desires of the flesh.
Living a life of compromise is to do what everyone is doing because you want to fit in and be seen as “normal”.
REASONS WHY CHRISTIAN YOUTHS LIVE LIVES OF COMPROMISE
- Fear of hurting other peoples emotions
- Desire to fit in
- A longing to belong
- Fear of being tagged “weird” or “churchy”
- Fear of losing the other person(mostly in relationships)
- Greed and desire for worldly pleasure
- Peer pressure, society’s influence
- etc…….

4 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULDN’T LIVE A LIFE OF COMPROMISE
As believers, we have been called out to live a life that is holy and acceptable unto the Lord. Although we are in this world we are not of this world. It can be really difficult( but not impossible) to live each day without succumbing to the desires of our flesh. Social media is not helping matters at all. Today’s society makes bad look good and cool and tagged good as bad. Even among believers, we have those that promote the wrong ideologies and teach others to follow the same.
One thing is for sure,God hates it when we compromise our faith and spiritual stand. For someone who has uncontiously and contiously lived this life, I can tell you for sure that it is dangerous and has consequences. Below are some of the reasons why you should not live a life of compromise
1. LIVING A LIFE OF COMPROMISE AFFECTS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
I recently noticed that I don’t get a strong wifi connection when I’m downstairs. But, I get very strong connections when I am in the living room. This is because the router is in the living room. what I’m trying to say is this, as long as I am close by the source my connection is always strong. The same applies to our relationship with God. As long as we dwell in His presence we always have a strong connection.
Sin is one thing that affects our relationship with God. Most at times it always starts small, it’s that one small lie, that one small thought, that one “but everyone is doing it, just try it and see. you won’t die” as soon as we start to compromise we slowly start to move away from God and His principles. We start seeing them as burdens rather than blessings and we might even question the authenticity of his word. It takes the grace of God to bring you back and restore you.
2. LIVING A LIFE OF COMPROMISE MAKES YOU LOSS SIGHT OF MORAL STANDARD
In the story of Balaam, especially the part where he was conversing with his donkey, I personally find it funny. I wonder if it clicked to him that he was actually talking to a donkey.
See, when we start to compromise we gradually lose our consciousness and lower our moral standards. we no longer see things from God’s point of view and we start measuring things to our own corrupt human standards. stealing no longer becomes a big deal, calling someone out on social media becomes ok, bullying others, and leaving hurtful comments becomes the norm. You lose every sense of moral integrity. As believers, we have the holy spirit that gives us that inner conviction but if we keep ignoring him he just leaves. Oh my! life becomes a mess. Remember king saul and how he spent the latter part of his life? when the spirit of the lord left him he was tormented by an evil spirit.
3. A LIFESTYLE OF COMPROMISE MAKES YOU VULNERABLE TO ATTACK.
In my post, This means war, I made mention of how we as believers are at war. Every day of our life here on earth we are prone to attack. what keeps us is the hedge of God’s protection around us. But what happens when that hedge is broken due to sin and disobedience?
He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him. Ecclesiastes 10:8
It is very clear from the above scripture that the devil will strike. This could be in the forms of sickness, spiritual attacks, death, financial problems, etc. Satan is not your friend he can spend years plotting your downfall, don’t give him a chance. Refuse to compromise and hold on to the truth of who Jesus is.
4.LIVING A LIFE OF COMPROMISE LEADS TO DEATH.
In the garden of Eden God told Adam and Eve that they would die if they ate from the tree and they did die-they lost their place in God’s presence. Thank God for Jesus that paid the price and restored us back to our rightful place. The worst thing that can happen to a believer is to choose to let go, to turn away from the truth, and accept the lies of the devil. Another example is lot’s wife. She and her husband moved to a city filled with all kinds of evil. The day of destruction came and God in his mercy decided to spare them. He gave a simple instruction-do not look back! unfortunately, she looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt(let us just say she ended up dieing).
CONCLUSION
Compromising in our walk and relationship with God is very wrong. Living in a society like ours is not easy. We as Christian youths are tempted daily to do what everyone is doing. It takes the grace of God to survive. It is my prayer that we continue to walk faithfully and holding firm to what we believe. If you are living a life compromise, make the decision to stop today. Do not hesitate to ask God for mercy.
I hope this post has blessed you, please feel free to share with others.
