Born on April 27, 1998, Joseph Deen Sesay (Minister Deen) grew up with a unique liking for music. At the early age of 13, he lost his dad and was raised by a single mom. Growing up in Sierra Leone was a challenge. But amidst the various ups and downs of life, Joseph Deen Sesay found his solace in music. In 2017, the world heard his voice after the release of his first gospel song. Joseph Deen Sesay, now recognized as Minister Deen, has dedicated his life to proclaiming the wonders of God through his vocal talents. However, prior to 2017, there were several years of behind-the-scenes challenges.
Minister Deen’s Prunning Season
During his high school tenure, Joseph developed a profound affinity for gospel music, a fact his mother didn’t know. He independently enrolled in Balantan, a distinguished musical training institute, and Evangel Bible College, a reputable theological institution. Despite being only 17 years of age, he possessed an innate understanding of his passion for music. Following his regular academic commitments, he would attend evening sessions at the music school. The endeavor to concurrently manage his academic, musical, and theological pursuits presented significant challenges; however, Joseph’s unwavering determination enabled him to persevere until completion.
He successfully completed his examinations, achieving exceptional results. During the period awaiting university admission, he volunteered his musical talents at his mother’s church, where she served as a minister.
He played really well, and he worked hard. Eventually, he got to sing, and he really put his heart into it. Even though he loved music and singing, Minister Deen had this big problem that was really bothering him. He saw how tough things were for his mom raising him and his sister, so he decided to save up and leave the country with the money he made from his side gigs. He was ready to leave Sierra Leone to find a better life.
But God had bigger plans for Minister Deen. His plans were interrupted by divine intervention, and he returned to Sierra Leone. In 2020, he gained admission into the university to study Computer Science. In his first year at university, he received the inspiration to start “Worship with Minister Deen,” which has been a blessing to so many.
A Big Shock For Minister Deen
Minister Deen recounted his initial surprise within the music ministry. Following extensive prayer and meticulous planning for his inaugural worship concert, he was unexpectedly met with an attendance of only 14 individuals. While this was initially disheartening, Minister Deen committed to perseverance. The subsequent year, he organized another worship concert, which garnered a substantial attendance. This event resulted in transformative experiences, spiritual enrichment, and Christ’s glorification. Consequently, Minister Deen’s reputation expanded, and his music gained widespread recognition among the youth of Sierra Leone.
The Ugly Side Of Fame And Exposure
But fame has its own problems, like sleepless nights, attacks from the devil, family discouragement, people’s disappointment, temptation to give in to worldly desires, and more. Still, Minister Deen’s conviction stayed strong. He understood the vision God gave him, and he’d accepted a call, so there was no turning back.
“The cross of Christ is heavy. One has to be willing to carry it. Be ready to run with a vision God has given you.
“Ministry is not a bed of roses. It comes with its own challenges; nonetheless, I consider myself privileged to use my voice to reconcile men to God.

“My walk with God is my top priority. I’m intentional about knowing God through His Word because I have understood that it’s better to walk with God than to work for Him. As a music minister, I’m cautious about my associations. I choose my circle prayerfully”
“I have this advice for my fellow youths: Be ready to walk with God. Know God for yourself, hear from Him, and learn from Him. Live your life for an audience of one. Don’t put all your trust in man; you can get disappointed. Grow in your calling, put in the effort, and be mindful of your associations. Choose people who will align with you in your walk with God.”
